Rugby Season Kicks Off. April 17, 2019April 17, 2019 Grenfell Rugby Club Uncategorized The rugby season has kicked off with the annual trip to the Kiama 7’s competition. The boys came up against teams from Kiama, Bungendore and Albury. Although going down in all 3 games Grenfell put up a good fight with the biggest margin only being 5 points. The next trip was for Matty Randall and Becky Eastaway who were selected in their respective Central West sides to tour New Zealand. They flew out on the 3rd March into Christchurch the home of the Super 15s side the Crusaders. They got to meet All Black legends Sam Whitelock, Richie Mo’unga, Phillipa Love and Melissa Ruscoe. They both had their first game on Wednesday against Canterbury Uni with both teams coming away with big wins. Unfortunately, Matty injured his foot and was unable to finish the game. Thursday they were lucky enough to have a 2 hour training experience with some of New Zealand rugby’s best coaches to put them through their paces. Friday was a day for some thrill seeking which included jet boating threw Hanmers Waiau Gorge and then relaxing in some of the thermal pools at Hanmer Springs. Saturday was game day again coming up against Prebbleton and High School Old Boys and again both teams having big wins. Saturday night they went to watch the Crusaders play the Chiefs at Rugby Park. A big congratulations to both players for the effort and commitment they have put in which saw them selected in the Central West sides. This week the Panthers travel to Boorowa to take part in a gala day taking on sides from Young, Harden, Crookwell and Easts from Canberra. Their first game starts at 10.30. Other things happening around the club is the committee and some supporters have been busy putting in a new playground area for the kids and rebuilding a couple of grand stands. Over the next couple of weeks a new electronic score board and a roof over the balcony will be installed. Hopefully this will be all completed before our first home game which is on the 6th April against Young.
